Homeschooling is not for every family — and we will be the first to tell you. Here is a no-pressure framework for deciding if it is right for your child.
Choosing to homeschool is a big decision. As a Texas state law compliant program, we get this question every week: ‘Is homeschool actually right for my child?’ Here is an honest framework to help you decide.
Signs Homeschool Might Be a Good Fit
- Your child is anxious, bullied, or unsafe at their current school
- Your family schedule does not fit a traditional 8-to-3 day
- Your child has fallen behind and needs individualized pacing
- Your child is gifted and held back by the pace of their classroom
Signs Public or Private School Might Be Better
- Your child genuinely thrives socially in their current school
- There is no parent or guardian available to oversee daily learning
- You need full-day childcare and homeschool will not provide that
What Texas Law Requires
Texas treats homeschools as private schools. Your program must be conducted in a bona fide manner, use a written curriculum, and cover specific subjects. The TAHS youth program handles the compliance side so you can focus on your child.
