Founded to Help Students Who Felt Left Behind
Texas Alternative Home School was founded by Dr. Shawn W. Clark, whose passion for education grew out of a concern for students who were falling through the cracks of traditional education systems.
Over the years, Dr. Clark saw too many young people become discouraged because they struggled in public school environments that weren’t designed around their individual needs. He also witnessed countless adults who had left school years earlier and felt overwhelmed by the prospect of returning to finish their education. More Than a Homeschool Program
While we began as a state law-compliant private homeschool, we’ve grown into a supportive alternative education program that serves both youth and adults throughout Texas. Our students come from many different backgrounds. Some are teenagers whose families are seeking alternatives to traditional schools. Others are adults who never completed high school and want to improve their career opportunities, pursue higher education, or simply accomplish a goal they’ve carried for years. No matter where they start, our mission remains the same: help students move forward with confidence and earn a diploma they can be proud of.
One of the most rewarding parts of what we do is watching students rediscover hope. Many arrive feeling discouraged or convinced they’ve missed their chance. Over time, they begin to see that earning their diploma is not only possible, but achievable. That’s what keeps us motivated every day.
Why Our Approach Is Different
At Texas Alternative Home School, we don’t believe every student should be forced into the same educational model. Traditional public schools work well for many students, but they aren’t the right fit for everyone. Similarly, GED programs can be valuable, but they often require students to pass high-stakes testing that can create additional stress and barriers. Our approach is different.
We utilize the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) curriculum, a mastery-based learning system that allows students to progress at their own pace. Instead of moving through material according to a fixed classroom schedule, students complete individualized PACEs designed to help them master concepts before advancing. This personalized structure allows students to focus on learning rather than simply keeping up.

The answer is yes.
Students legally transfer into our private school and earn a fully state law-compliant high school diploma along with an official transcript. This allows graduates to pursue many of the same opportunities available to traditional high school graduates.
